Duplicate records in a table create problems. This automation script links the triggering record to its same-table duplicates.
- Find matches based on multiple fields, where either "all" of the fields match, or "any" of the fields match.
- For text-based fields, optionally ignore leading/trailing white space, accents, and upper/lower case.
- For multiple select and linked record fields, optionally sort field values so that records with the same values in different orders match.
- Optionally, search only a specific view for duplicates.
Using a same-table linked record field for identifying duplicates is superior to a checkbox or single select field. The same-table link lets you quickly find the specific record that is a duplicate, whereas other fields leave you guessing which record is the duplicate. If you delete the duplicate record, it is automatically removed from the linked-record field, making resolving duplicates easier.
Notes:
- This script works for a single record. To find all the duplicates for all records in a table or view, use this script inside a repeating action group.
- This automation script updates the same-table link only for the triggering record. It does not update the linked record field for the other records.
- This script does not compare records across tables. All records must be in the same table.
- Numeric field values must match exactly to be considered duplicate values. However, in the user interface, numbers may appear to be the same when they are not, due to rounding.
This minified script is not human-readable or editable.
